Why Isn’t My Business Showing Up on Google?

Ever typed your biz name into Google and… crickets?

First of all—don’t panic. You’re not alone, and no, your business isn’t broken. But if you’re not showing up in search results, that is costing you clients.

Let’s break down what’s likely going wrong (and how to fix it without having to become an SEO wizard).

Flat lay of a feminine office desk with coral-toned accessories, fresh flowers, a computer monitor, and a notebook—perfect for a Charlotte-based female entrepreneur working on her marketing and SEO.

1. You Don’t Have a Google Business Profile (or It’s Not Optimized)

If you're a local business, this is a must. Think of it as your digital storefront—it’s what shows up on Google Maps and in the little info box on the right side of search results. If it's missing or outdated? You're invisible.

Fix it: Set up your profile here and make sure it includes:

  • Your current service area

  • High-quality photos

  • Business categories (be specific!)

  • Business hours + contact info

2. Your Website Doesn’t Have the Right Keywords

If your site just says “Welcome to my site!” and not much else… Google has no idea what you actually do. You need to be using keywords your dream clients are actually searching for.

Fix it: Start simple. Instead of “Wellness Studio,” try:

“Charlotte Postpartum Health Coach” or “Prenatal Fitness in Fort Mill”

3. Your Website Isn’t Being Indexed

Even if your site exists, it might not be getting indexed (aka added to Google’s search database).

Fix it: Go to Google Search Console and verify your site. It’ll show if your pages are indexed—and flag any issues that are keeping you hidden.

4. You’re Missing Local SEO Signals

Google wants to show people nearby businesses. If you haven’t told Google where you are and what you do—clearly and consistently across the web—you’re not going to pop up.

Fix it: Check that your NAP (Name, Address, Phone) info is consistent on:

  • Your website

  • Google Business Profile

  • Yelp, Facebook, Instagram, etc.

5. Your Website Needs Some TLC

If your site loads slowly, isn’t mobile-friendly, or feels confusing, Google might push you down the list. It cares about user experience.

Fix it: Use Google’s PageSpeed Insights to see how your site stacks up. Or… just reach out—I offer $50 mini audits.
