Running a small business in Charlotte is no small feat—you’re juggling everything from customer service to inventory to social media (on a good day). And let’s be honest, digital marketing can feel like one more thing you should be doing better, but it keeps falling to the bottom of the list.
If you’re trying to grow your business online but aren’t getting the results you want, you might be making one of these common mistakes. The good news? They're all fixable—and I’m here to help you figure out how.

1. Ignoring Google Business Profile (GBP)
If your business isn’t showing up on local search or Google Maps, it could be because your profile isn’t optimized—or worse, you don’t have one at all.
Fix it:
Claim and fully complete your Google Business Profile. Add photos, your hours, services, and respond to reviews regularly. Google loves active profiles, and so do your potential customers in Charlotte searching “best [your service] near me.”
2. Posting Without a Plan on Social Media
Randomly throwing up an Instagram post when you remember to—or copying what another business is doing—isn’t going to build trust or grow your audience.
Fix it:
Create a simple content strategy that includes your brand voice, key topics, and a realistic posting schedule. You don’t need to post daily, but you do need consistency and value-driven content.
3. Your Website Looks Great… But Can’t Be Found
It’s easy to focus on making a pretty website, but if no one can find it through Google, what’s the point?
Fix it:
Basic SEO matters. That includes clear page titles, meta descriptions, local keywords (hello, Charlotte!), and content that answers your customers’ actual questions. Need help with this? It’s one of my favorite things to do.
4. Skipping Email Marketing Completely
If you’re only relying on social media to connect with your audience, you’re missing out. What happens if Instagram goes down tomorrow?
Fix it:
Start building your email list now—even if it’s tiny. Send monthly updates, promotions, or helpful tips to stay top of mind with your audience.
5. Trying to Do It All Yourself
Yes, you can wear all the hats, but that doesn’t mean you should—especially when it comes to marketing strategies that impact your revenue.
Fix it:
Outsource the parts of digital marketing that aren’t your jam (or are draining your time). Whether it’s SEO, website updates, or managing social content, having a pro (like me!) in your corner can save you time and actually grow your business faster.
